Nature & Excursions

In addition to the hustle and bustle of the city, Frankfurt and the region also offer many opportunities to relax and unwind in the countryside.

Green Belt of Frankfurt

Frankfurt is surrounded by the park like a green belt and thus offers a place of refuge to all those who would like to go out into the countryside. For about 70 km you can cycle or hike along meadows and river meadows, through forests and past some of the sights.

Perhaps you have heard of the Green Sauce, which is a culinary speciality in Frankfurt? A total of 7 different herbs are added to the sauce, for which 7 green greenhouses - actually in the Oberräder Kräuterfelder - were built, all in a different shade of green, thus representing Germany's first monument to a national dish. This is only one attraction you can discover in the belt.

Palm Garden Frankfurt

Next to the Green Belt, Frankfurt's most famous green oasis is probably the Palmengarten. The park has about 20 ha and in several greenhouses you can see plants and flowers from almost all climatic zones of the world. And did you know that some of the palm trees are over 100 years old?

Frankfurt's Palmengarten was opened in 1871 because a new home had to be found for many tropical plants from the orangery of Duke Adolf von Nassau. The Palmengarten Frankfurt was born. In the course of the years it was extended again and again with new plants.

There are also various animal breeds that have found refuge in the palm garden. For example, in and around the large pond of the garden, the water was already laid out in the old times of the park and thus belongs to the historical part.

Here you can even rent boats and take a ride across the pond. The Palmen-Express also runs through the garden from April to October. This allows you to take a leisurely ride through the garden, allowing you to concentrate fully on looking at the plants.

On Sundays there are always free early morning meals on different topics of flora and fauna.
